Section 304 – Episode 40 – Christmas Sports Roundup

section-304-blog-graphic-1On this week’s episode of Section 304, the boys are back after taking a bye week and they have a lot to catch up on, including their takes on the end os a successful football and women’s soccer seasons. Plus, the WVU men’s basketball team is rolling right along with only one loss.

West Virginia University’s football team ended their season with 10 wins – the ninth time the program has won 10 wins in its history – after beating the Baylor Bears 24-21. The Mountaineers are now heading to the Russell Athletic Bowl, facing the Miami Hurricanes on December 28 at 5:30 p.m.

After the break, the guys talk about the WVU women’s soccer team. They ended their season ranked number two in the nation after losing to USC in the NCAA Women’s College Cup. The women racked up 23 wins during their season and broke numerous college and NCAA records. While the football and soccer seasons are coming to a close, the WVU men’s basketball team is rolling right along. Section 304 – Episode 039 – David Upchurch

The Mountaineers hit the road to take on the Cyclones of Iowa State, but left the Cyclones winded with a 49-19 win. Iowa State kept it close the first quarter, with WVU leading 14-13, but the Cyclones were only able to pull off field goals in the second and third quarters and were scoreless the fourth quarter.

Section 304 – Episode 038 – Mark Plants

The Oklahoma Sooners made the trip to a snowy Milan Puskar Stadium Saturday, but the white stuff didn’t deter the 8-2 team from scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter, leaving the Mountaineers scoreless until late in the second quarter. The Sooners won 56-28, leaving WVU with an 8-2 record.

The Jayhawks traveled to Morgantown to face the Mountaineers, only to get kicked in their tail feathers. WVU beat Kansas 48-21, with the Mountaineers regaining their ranking as third in the Big 12. The Mountaineers are now 7-1 and 4-1 in the Big 12. Kansas didn’t score a single point until after halftime.

Oklahoma State beat WVU 37-20, making the Mountaineers 6-1 for the first loss and dropping to fourth in the Big 12. The guys broke down the game with former WVU Mountaineers quarterback Major Harris. Harris was a 1989 All-American, ECAC Player of the Year two years in a row, and a Heisman Trophy contender. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
